If you missed HIMYM last night, you missed out

Really, at this point, if you're not watching HIMYM yet, you fail at television.

But, if you missed last night's episode for a good reason, whoa, man, you missed out.

I still don't like the Barman & Robin storyline, but the Barnacle continues to hit them out of the park, and Jason Seagel is just hilarious to look at.

Just to give you a taste, here's some Barney wisdom:

“the rules for girls are the same as the rules for Gremlins”:
1. Never get them wet — in other words, don’t let them take a shower at your place.
2. Keep them away from sunlight — i.e., don’t ever see them during the day
3. Never feed them after midnight — meaning, she doesn’t sleep over, and you don’t have breakfast with her. Ever … No, Ted — brunch is not cool.

And I was proud when Maximus got 30 MPG...

Let's start with this tid-bit

Our friends at Ecomodder write: "The 2nd generation Honda CRX HF is a good platform for fuel economy. It's light (1830 lbs), has a small 1.5L 62 horsepower engine, and relatively tall gearing. It's rated at 41 city / 50 highway / 45 combined mpg (US) by the EPA's revised 2008 ratings."

50 MPG Highway.  That's stock.  OMFGWTFBBQ!!!   That's a sweet load of fuel economy, and in a CRX.  You could probably pick one of these up for under $2k, put another $1k into fixing the worn-out parts and re-coup that in fuel this year alone.

Well, guess what, it gets more shocking.

Modified Honda CRX HF Wins Fuel Economy Competition with 118 MPG!

And look what he did it with.  A regular CRX beater, some masking tape and some aluminum banding!!

I imagine the same idea applies to the "public option"

so I was at Walgreens getting a birthday card for Anie the other day and I noticed that Ellen Page & Drew Barrymore are on the cover of Marie Claire, talking about how they're "BFF's". This made me think I need to update my Celebrity 5 to compensate for this.

Here's what I got so far:

- Heidi Klum
- Ellen Page and/or Drew Barrymore
-
-
-

now I could easily fill these in with just hap-hazard choices, but I think this is something that needs lengthy consideration. Can't just run out and laminate this list without analyzing it.

Dear Felicia Day,
Why is The Guild so boring this season? Fix it.

Thanks,

This Guy

I totally see Anie doing this to me

Nerd-Cool: We always know the right word to use

Dear Anie,

Did you know that thing you have is called Brumotactillophobia? Yup, the thing where you hate your food touching and my statement that "it all ends up the same place" brings you no solace? Yeah, that thing. That's Brumotactillophobia. Congrats, now you know.

You're Welcome,

Mr. Awesome.

Dear GirlWhoAlwaysWantsToPrereadMyBlogs,

I just happened to watch and episode of a certain show and noticed that when someone's significant other tried to get a sneak peak of an unfinished article, they caused a computer to crash. Let's not have that happen here, eh?

Repeat of Last Year

Here's how I spent 9/9/08:

I still agree with all these sentiments, particularly about the pinkberry (double bleh now) and the last line.

Evening of Shmance

Went to the symphony last night and had a great time.

Anie and I had gone to the Phoenix Art Museum for First Fridays the night before (which we arrive to late due to an extended Sans-Pants Nap) , so we spent a good portion of the morning being lazy kids and not wanting to get out of bed. Her more so than me, as I got jettisoned to go pick-up coffee.

Newsflash: Did I mention Starbucks brought back the Pumpkin Spice Latte? This is always a good start to a good day.

Oh, sweet, sweet PSL, you are the greatest of morning treats. Why do you run away from me each year?

But, I digress...

Several hours later, we were on our way (late, of course) to Durant's for dinner. Pretty swanky place, I tell ya, yet for some reason, it seemed that all the women were dolled up, and decided to bring their husbands/boyfriends out on the town wearing whatever clothes were on the floor. Also of note, Durant's does not seem to have a guy that comes around and offers to take a picture of you and your date. This I learned as we left and I thought outloud "I should have scammed that waitress into taking our picture".

So, as it turns out, if you plan on going to the symphony, you may want to cover these two bases first
1.) Find out where the symphony is located
2.) Find out where you can park near the symphony

We did niether of these until 25 minute before showtime, as Anie frantically tried to make use of her Pinkberry phone. (meh) Luckily, somehow, she works literally across the street from Symphony Hall and never knew it.

The actual Symphony was pretty awesome, or as awesome as things in all-German can be. It was what I expected it to be, a night of culture and people-watching, especially when we encountered people such as "sings the national anthem incredibly loud from the audience" guy and "Helen-Mirren look-a-like Silver-Fox" Lady and "wears a school-girl outfit even though she's 30" woman. Plus, one of the violinist had a dog on stage with her. Randomness: 3 Boredom: 0

Afterwards, we spent at least 30 minutes driving around Downtown and Midtown unsuccesfully trying to find a coffee house or desert shop that was still open at nearly 11pm.

In review this morning, I gave the Symphony evening a 9.0 out of 10, and said that in my head I wanted to be the kind of person who went out to cultural events all the time, but knew that in reality it could/would only be a sometimes thing.

In truth, I could go for any reason to see Anie as dolled-up as she was last night.
(Pictures to be posted later)

Great! Now we REALLY have something to be thankful for...

The Road has been pushed back to now release the night before Thanksgiving.

1.) Anyone who hasn't read the book should really use this extra time to read one of the most riveting and moving stories I've ever read.
2.) Those of us who have read the book, I expect an especially poignant Thanksgiving morning-after. I mean, we get to wake up to a world that hasn't been killed yet. That's a pilgrim-sized bonus.

Who knew Harvey Weinstein was trying to save the real meaning of the holidays.

Nerd-Cool: Maps, the Follow-up

things must be catching on, because after I posted about the NYC neighborhood map about a month ago, I saw this come up on my Google feed-reader. Agent_M totally biting my steez-a-roni. However, in return, he did provide some sweet maps of his own.

The Diabolical Disney Merger

Awesome Street Art: Darth Misfits.

The Anti-Endorsement: Gamer

In case you didn't already have a reason to NOT go see this movie ever, consider the tagline in the new trailer that came out yesterday:

"The last time Gerard Butler kicked this much ass was 300 years ago."

1.) Wow, way to try to reference a Frank Miller-based fanboy movie to hawk your shit flick
2.) Also, good job NOT fact-checking or admitting that your shit flick will only be watched by brainless morons who really think the movie was called 300 because it took place 300 years ago.

Gerard Butler, I officially call "shmuck".

Ain't Afraid of No Ghost? Well, here's a chart of which to fear

The Endorsement: ASU Downtown

In the first place, the concept of a university in the middle of downtown Phoenix is a genius idea to me. Putting a little slice of college atmosphere into the area between the bustling Arts and Business sectors seems like all-around win.

Plus, it means more hot babes. I mean, why should Tempe get all of them, right?

So, here' a little story from my week.

On Tuesday, I was driving home from work and started having mad cravings for Tacos. "Fuck Taco Bell" I said to myself, remembering my recent visit when they let me order then said "oh, we're out of meat". No, I needed something better. Then it struck me; El Portal! Yes, delicious tacos installed just 2 blocks from my domicile at the base of ASU Downtown. Thank-you higher education.

So I find a parking meter and meander over to El Portal, checking out the college scene en route. I get to the door and already I can taste the awesome carne already. Then I tug on the door. Nothing. Look inside and see two workers sitting there. Tug again; nothing. Great! Now it's hot out and I'm being taunted with tacos I can't have!!! Que mala suerte!!

It was clear that this was now time for plan b. I looked to my right and saw a godsend; Sbarro's. Holy marinara-beats-guacamole. So, while it's not tacos, I figure a slice of pie can't be a bad consolation prize. Then, while waiting for my slice to be warmed up, in walk some girls fresh from some sort of dance class at ASU Downtown. I knew this because they were replete with maroon and gold shorts with "ASU" neatly printed on their booties. Oh my!

So, in the end, thank-you ASU Downtown for providing dinner and a view.

Nerd-Cool: Action Figures

Here's a revelation for ya. To this day, I still secretly wish it was acceptable to play with action figures like I used to get away with when I was 8 years old. This is probably why I have a spider-man bobblehead on my desk at work and a Babe Ruth Starting Line-Up figure by my computer at home. Maybe it's an ancient virility idol thing, or maybe it's just fondly remembering lost afternoons from my childhood, spent knee-deep in ninja turtles deciding how to save the city.

By the looks of this video, I'm not alone. At least, I, however, don't go around making poorly conceptualized videos. Then again, at least this dude gets off his ass and does something to express himself and not wallow in shame.

No, come to think of it, he prolly still wallows....

Nerd-Cool

Panic signs. Really, funny signs of any type. I love it. This is like almost the ultimate form of subversion.

Nerd-Cool: 1337-ness

My name's Ryan and I play games. Alot.

I really shouldn't say "play" games, because playing implies the change for failure.

I WIN games.

I win games and I pwn noobs while doing it.

And I LOVE IT!!!

I can't lie, I love pwning noobs. No matter what game it is, I just can't help but win, sorta like the main character on Pure Pwnage, but not Canadian.

This leetness has lead me to actually stop playing/buying console games because my brother and my friends would always get tired of playing against me because they'd lose consistently.

It's not like I didn't WANT to be a good sport, but I can't sit here and lose on purpose. I'm like Mickey in SNATCH. I just don't take the dive.

Then I found WoW. Yes WoW is nerdy, but in the end I spend less time and money playing WoW than I would playing console games and having to buy a new one every month because I was bored.

Plus WoW has something like 11-million players, so there's a nearly endless supply of n00bs to pwn.

new reason to learn to play cello?
