ooooh

I'm biased, because I once got free Dbacks tickets from an employee there, but this DOES look like a nice site. If only Harkin's physical theatres looked this good.

Lol, pretty convincing.

Wii Killer??

LOL at the Chuck Norris joke (answer: Chuck Norris pushes the Earth down.)

Another reason I need to buy a 360

LOL, real-life convo

Me via Text: Funny blogs today, babe

GF via Text: thanks love

Me via Text: While we're on the topic, do you think those meatballs are still good?
Me via Text: (3 min later) Are you still there? This is crucial!!

GF via Text: (15 min later) Still here. No, I don't think they are good anymore. You can smell test and tell (<----- yes, vindication for every dude's techinique)

Me via Telepathy: Yeah, I already went with Plan B (as in Be Prepared, don't be squared) Me via Tweet: I just commented on your blog, and the captcha it came up with was "the lu". seriously.

GF via Tweet:
that's because my blog is foreign and fancy.

Me via Tweet:
the lu = fancy? also, R&A is not on *****'s blog roll, so feel free to continuing talking about how lame she is. LOL.

GF via uber-discrete text: can you delete your last tweet so I don't get heat for talking smack 2 days in a row?

Me va text: Whoa, whoa. Censorship!!!!

In the end, I complied, but do you see how I could have already been 1/2 dead from no response on the meatball question?

BTW, this is my 200th blog post. Woot!

Another Reason to despise Boston

Dear Boston, you sure are doing your best to make sure Chicago and Tucson never steal the title of "City I like the Least, ever". Way to be dicks and try to prosecute an icon for a "crime" committed almost a decade ago. I love the quote at the end. Would the city care if they knew they could sell that work for $1,000,000 had they kept it? Good job!

Readers: In case you're not familiar with Fairey, he created the OBEY brand with the Andre the Giant logo, make the covers for "Elephunk" and "Monkey Business" and the great poster for "Walk the Line", amoung other things, before being catapulted by his Obama work.

Then again, remember, Boston was the city that thought the LED "throwies" used by Cartoon Network to advertise Adult Swim in 2006 were "terrorist devices".

More than a dozen charges dropped in Shepard Fairey case

June 2, 2009 06:02 PM Email| Comments (10)| Text size – +

By Maria Cramer, Globe Staff, and Matt Collette, Globe Correspondent

Prosecutors announced today that they had dropped 14 vandalism charges against Shepard Fairey, the 39-year-old artist best known for creating the "Hope" poster associated with Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

fairey.jpg
Shepard Fairey

Fairey, a Los Angeles artist whose work is on display at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, was arrested and charged with vandalism on Feb. 6. The charges dropped stemmed from a series of stickers Fairey allegedly placed on signposts and other public property in Roxbury, according to Suffolk district attorney's spokesman Jake Wark.

Jeffrey Wiesner, who represents Fairey, said 13 charges, not 14, had been dismissed and that his client was still fighting 15 more. Wiesner had argued that the evidence against Fairey included commercially available stickers featuring images of his work which could have been posted by anybody.

"We're happy that those cases have been dismissed and we're looking forward to others being dismissed as well that rely on the same set of facts that these did," he said.

Prosecutors said Fairey still faces charges for 13 similar offenses, 10 in Boston Municipal Court’s Central Division and another three in the Brighton Division. The charges stem from an incident on Sept. 16, 2000 where Fairey allegedly pasted a poster onto a Brighton Avenue electrical box. Fairey did not appear at his scheduled arraignment the next morning, and police arrested Fairey in February as he was headed to the ICA for his exhibit’s opening-night party.

Wark said prosecutors are still going forward with the other charges.

"District Attorney [Daniel F.] Conley recognizes the effect that graffiti have on the quality of life in any neighborhood and he has asked his prosecutors to seek convictions whenever they are supported by the evidence," Wark said.

I don't know what this commercial is saying...

but so far I got:

which means I'm in.

What's up with Redheads?

Seriously, the redheads are bringing the heat these days. I think it's a concerted efforts to try to break into my 5 and shatter the grip brunettes have held on me since the 8th grade.

(yes, previous to that I dated blondes only, but then I went through rehab and learned to love myself, but I digress...)

I stumbled across this amazing shot of Mrs. Borat earlier and had no clue the chick from Wedding Crashers was bringing sexy back to the Ginge population. Yowza, indeed!

Oh Damn

I've been obsessed with Line Rider for the last few days, but tonight I saw this and I know my life is not truly complete until I've mastered this game as well.

Damn you, it's true!!!

Once again, from Stuff White People Like:

If you see a white woman and you are trying to figure out whether she is liked or just merely tolerated by white people, the best thing you can do is get a quick look at her haircut. It is a known fact that white people love women who wear their hair with bangs that hang straight down.

A number of very popular white women have worn this hairstyle including Joni Mitchell, Jane Birkin, Jenny Lewis and every girl ever photographed by Vice Magazine or the Cobrasnake. (Note: it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with these two things as they are both beloved by cool white people. Follow up note: these same things are hated by cooler white people).

Many people associate this type of haircut with children and people looking for the most efficient way to get hair out of their eyes. But for white people, this simple haircut makes a bold declaration by saying that the wearer is artistic, deep, and has probably dated a guy in a band you like. Of course, as with many things loved by white people, simple often means expensive and these haircuts usually cost upwards of $100.

It is essential for you to know this haircut is more than a mere fashion statement– it is an important cultural marking. Throughout the world, many cultures feature ceremonies to announce that a girl has become a woman. For white people, the haircut-with-bangs is an important symbol that a female has completed her transformation from a nerdy girl to a cool woman. In fact, if you went to high school with a nerdy white girl who moved to a big city, there is a good chance she will show up to your high school reunion with this haircut.

When you are introduced to a group of white people, it’s a good idea to befriend the girl with the bangs. She’s probably the most popular.

I can't lie, this is 100% true with me. Personally, I called it Lily-Allen Syndrome until I realized other people were similarly affected.

How Wierd is it

How do we keep falling behind China?

The rest of this video isn't that entertaining, but just look at all the solar powered water heaters on the roofs. Water Heating is about 15% of your daily household energy costs, and these guys have converted almost their entire city to solar. damn.

Talk about your easily accomplished warnings. This is something I'd do anyways. No way I'm going to be the first kill in the imminent robot-uprising. Don't you imagine the first kill is the most sloppy, anyways, just like the first pancake of the batch. I'm going to take a pass and agree to let the robot ride solo.

(interesting side-theory: The "robot" in question is the android-baby that wicked-old christian slater is holding.)

Fantastic Combo

Two of my great loves

- comic books
- street art

(yes, I know that's like geek paired with punk/hip-hop, but I'll pull it off just like Pharell does)

Anyways, found this image on @Agent_M's blog and had to recycle. (see how I'm helping the environment right now, too?)

(seriously, it is helping the environment, because me showing this to you online means the artist won't have to paint another one closer to you just so your greedy-ass can see it, thus saving on paint and reducing VOC's in our air. you're fucking welcome)

Some Sinatra to get you through the day.

Listening to this makes me think I'm in a Billy Crystal movie, but hey, it works. Happy Friday everyone.

Ten Crazy Disturbing Books

Of this list, I've only read "The Road", and that was fucked-up enough. I also have to say, the after-affect of "Johnny Got His Gun" is probably my #1 fear in life.

Q: When was there a hotter villain?

A: uh...I dunno

Yes, I've also been feeling congested this week

On my Must Get List

As if you couldn't guess from the image above, X-MEN: Magneto's Testament in hardcover. Out today, this book looks amazing.

After all, Magneto was right. (Yes, I do NEED to own the t-shirt those guys have, but near as I can tell, they are only home-made so far.)

The Most Effective Turn-the-Fuck-Around Sign, ever!!

See how the zombie bastards try to ambush you?

They make the next block look all lush and green and inviting, especially compared to the hideously-colored grass on your current block, which I can only describe as Detroit-Autumn-Sludge. Trying to make me think a nap under that tree would be a good idea, huh? Guess what, I don't want to wake-up Undead!! I see right through your fake tail-lights up ahead, too, zombie.

Better luck next time, I'm going to flip one and find another route to the Taco Bell. Peace.

Well....

Since I already own (and proudly display at work) the Mighty Muggs Wolverine in the old-school yellow get-up, I'm going to dub this new one the Broke-Backy Wolverine and take a pass. Seriously, the hat is removable, but when would anyone really be able to get close enough to take Wolverine's hat off?

This is why I should work at Marvel, really...

Free books weekly, c'mon, how sweet is that? And economical

some things are too true

Taken from Stuff White People Like:

To put this in proper perspective, Ed Hardy is so hated by white people that it cannot be worn ironically. This is no small feat. As it stands, the only other entries in this category are Nazi Uniforms, Ku Klux Klan Robes, and self-tanner.
I also group anything Travis Barker or DJ AM would wear into this category. Then again, don't you sometimes feel bad for guys that have to put on a complete uniform to hit on chicks? Wonder what they're like without their douche-armor?

Lol, I need new readers...

Just noticed that if I keep posting, I can be sure to remain at the top of KV's blog referral thing, so I think I might take up that challenge. After all, if it's really a competition between my blog and Fuck You Penguin, it's a pretty sweet challenge.

I saw this list and thought it was a stroke of genius. Immediately there after, I contemplating duplicating it with my own Top 10 list of Tracy Jordan quotes, but realized that'd take more time than I was prolly willing to put towards this task. I would, however, like to add my #1 favorite:

Tracy Jordan: "Stop patronizing me with your celtic slang."

This means more Eliza Dushku, or if you're like myself, more Dichen Lachman (see below). Now, just wondering if they'll air the Felicia Day episode, or if it will still only be on the DVD.

Truths

If the average commuter carpooled, they'd save 500 gallons of gas a year. Thats money in the bank.

Remember last summer @ $4 a gallon? You like spending $2,000 you don't need to?

Light Rail for the win!
1.7 billions trees are cut down to meet the paper needs of the U.S. Every year. That's 5 trees per person. And over half of that gets thrown away. We throw away so much, 1 years worth of landfill-bound paper would build a 12 foot wall from NYC to LA, almost all of which could be recycled.

To meet this demand, paper companies plant trees to harvest later. Some countries, however grow fast-growing eucalyptus trees that are not native to the area and alter the habitat by requiring more water and not supporting the same wildlife. Be sure to always looks for the FSC logo on wood and paper products to make sure the trees it came from weren't harmful to the environment.

Lastly, if everyone decreased their margins from 1" to 1/2" we'd save 5% of the paper used, which saves 6 million trees which would clean 500,000 TONS of CO2 from the air, the equivalent of taking 133,000 cars off the road.

Watching "Planet Earth" last night, narrated by James Earl Jones made me think about the falacy of sci-fi.

Logically we think the chances of us being the only form of intelligent life are slim, but this is surely bolstered by a tainted morality that would hate to face the prospect that this IS the only place life can be sustained, that there is no back-up earth, that we HAVE inherited a unique wonder and are fucking it up more and more each day.

As much as I have subscribed to the "I can always fix it later" methodology, this CANNOT be the modus operandi for the planet. Take a serious look around and imagine all the other lives your choices are affecting.

50% of the worlds plant & animal species live in the 3% of the planet tat is covered by rain forrest; the same rain forrest that is being destroyed to bring you teak patio furniture and cheez-its. Hope those cheez-its taste good when you've helped eradicate the plants that could have cured your mom/daughter/brother's cancer. yummy!!

So I thought I'd test out blogging from my Treo by telling you guys my harrowing story of this morning.

1.) went to bed about 11pm
2.) had a crazy dream about a disgruntled pizza delivery guy and a daschund that lived in the trunk of my car (calm down PETA, I know dogs don't live in trunks). Kept hearing a weird sound during this dream
3.) finally open my eyes to realize it's 4am and the sound was the fire alarm going off!!!
4.) even though all my clean clothes are laying about my room, I can't find pants and a t-shirt found 13 different dress shirt, but somehow during my Flee-the-Fire thought patterns, I decided I still needed to match.
5.) finally put pants on and run out the door to see that A.) I am the last person to get out of the building!!! And B) I'm wearing my sweatpants backwards, and I'm not sure my shirt is facing forward either
6.) firemen arrive and turn off the alarm. I skeptically return to my apt and sniff around for any flames.
7.) my alarm clock never went off this morning, leading me to believe that either A.) a certain someone broke it last time she threw it, or B.) the fire was localized to my alarm clock only.

Possibly the best idea to make everyone greener: Small Steps Paper Towells made from 100% recycled paper. If I can get NE on board, anyone can try it.

Hats off to....

I was watching the Yankee's Opening Day game while waiting for the cable guy to come fix my internet, and I heard the following exchange:

(reviewing a graphic of the money teams spent on Free Agents last off-season; the Yankees spent $441 million on three guys)

VP Joe Biden: Joe, you ever see those numbers and just think...?

Joe Morgan: It's funny, but no, I really don't. I came up and was able to play against Willie Mays & Mickey Mantle, and that was all I ever wanted as a kid.

Now, I'm not foolish, everyone likes money, but personally, I'm giving a thumbs-up to Joe Morgan.

In other opening day news:
- Not only did Mark Teixeira take Giambi's job & position, he took his number, too. Ouch
- Speaking of Big Tex, first time I saw him at bat today, he hit a foul ball line-drive down the first base line and it honestly bounced off a kid. All these people waiting to catch a foul ball, and this kid just eats one to the chest? Give me this loser's tickets, now!
- In Phoenix, two players from the D-Backs hit home-runs from both sides of the plate. That craziness. Know what else is crazy; how I didn't scam my way into a free ticket to that game.

Btw, fuck you A-Rod.

Snikt! Snikt! April = Wolverine Appreciation Month

Click here for the full link, plus the picture. The Klimt & Van Gogh Wolverines were my favorites.

From Marvel.com

Marvel is proud to announce that in honor of Wolverine's 35th anniversary, numerous Marvel titles will feature Wolverine Art Appreciation Variant Covers in April, as part of Wolverine Art Appreciation Month. In the tradition of Marvel's previous variant cover programs, featuring everything from villains to zombies to monkeys, select Marvel titles will feature variant covers spotlighting the most popular X-Man through a unique lens! Inspired by some of the world's greatest artists, these variant covers depict Wolverine like you've never seen him before, in styles reminiscent of Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol and more!

"This is a huge year for Wolverine as he proves why he's arguably one of the most popular characters in the world," explained Joe Quesada, Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief. "He's not just popular with fans but also with artists, as evidenced by how many of today's top comic artists jockey for a chance to draw him. This got us thinking: what if Wolverine had been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years? What great, classic artists would want a crack at drawing a Wolverine cover?"

Keep checking back with Marvel.com for a complete listing of titles featuring the Wolverine Art Appreciation Variant Covers and a first look at these landmark covers!

Radical Change calls for Radical Ideas

So, of all the places I'd expect to hear about new green initiatives, this one actually comes from my boss. He forwarded me an e-mail yesterday that said:

As an outgrowth of my decades of focus on state capitals and Governors around the country, I have been working with a coalition of environmental groups, trade associations, and businesses to organize and promote what will be the nation’s biggest virtual march to support the passage of a new energy bill through Congress that will take the next critical steps in finally declaring America’s independence from foreign oil. This is now not just an energy issue, but an environmental issue and a national security issue. The Stimulus bill put the necessary incentives in place for renewable energy investments, but now we need the next piece: green transmission, a national renewable portfolio standard and incentives to get our nations heavy trucks off diesel and onto natural gas.

The March is being led by Robert Kennedy Jr. and T. Boone Pickens – a pairing that surely makes the point that this is an issue that transcends politics and party and is the patriotic cause of our lifetime.

Over 1.9 million people have agreed so far to participate. It is our goal to stimulate over 1 million contacts to the Congress over that three-day period.

So, at first I was naturally skeptical, but then I started reading about T. Boone Pickens' investements and recent green-business developments. The gist of the "Pickens Plan", as it's called, is to shift existing technologies in a way that will enable/cause us to use more American energy sources and become more self-sufficient. Right now, 22% of our electricity is generated from Natural Gas. The Pickens Plan calls for tax dollars/incentives to utilyze Wind Power to generate that 22% of electricity production, and shift the Natural Gas volume over for use in transportation. Figures supplied by the Pickens Plan indicate that doing so could replace 36% of the current gasoline/diesel usage with Natural Gas harvested in America.

In the interest of full disclosure, Pickens and the group he chairs, own the largest wind farm and the largest chain of Natural Gas fueling stations in the U.S., so enacting these measures would cause a large financial reward to Pickens. That said, last year Pickens made $2.7 billion as the manager of BP Capital hedge fund, mostly on profits from Suncorp & Exxonmobile, the largest oil companies in North Amercia; so whichever way you go on this proposal, he's still making money. This makes me clearly side with the route that helps the environment.

For more info on the Plan, and how you can help, visit:

Damn you Cobra Starship

Just like everything else Pete Wentz touches, you started out cool & rocking, and now you're just trendy fodder.

"You Can't be missed if you never go away" was such a great song, made me look up the rest of your first album... .then you follow it up with what? 83,000 MTV-commercial mini-appearances and 1 dud of a sophmore album.

Then again, I guess you were just preparing me for the lump of coal that would be GCH's recent album.

I should have seen the warning signs, but I just couldn't quit you...

Now I'm back to brit-rock!!

Absense

Notice how I didn't post anything in February?
Yeah, that was supposed to be Sweeps Month, in which I would provide a life-changing series titled "Random & Awesome Solves the Problems".
As such, the problem I could not solve was procrastination.

Five Things I did in February Instead of Blogging

1.) Ignored the Cardinals and told people "real sports start in March" (Baseball & UEFA Champions' League Playoffs, if you weren't clear)
2.) Drank less beer. Yeah, not sure how/why that happened
3.) Continued not saving money. Don't worry, I'm like a one-man stimulus package
4.) Somehow missed out on all the great "stimulus package = frat-humor wang jokes" opportunities
5.) Kept being tricked into eating potatoes. See what happens when you're a regular among the breakfast burrito community?

Btw, I learned via twitter today that London does not have burritos. Someone ship a mexican over there, stat!

What can operate in temperatures above the melting point of iron (1,538 degrees Celsius) and below the temperature of liquid nitrogen (-196 degrees Celsius)?

A sheet strip of carbon nanotube aerogel: The muscles of the future? Courtesy University of Texas

Answer: Artificial muscles made up of carbon nanotubes.

I’m sure that was the first thing that came to mind, right?

This is the latest innovation coming out of the field of carbon nanotechnology.

The application of these microscopic carbon tube structures has peaked the interest of many engineers and scientists in recent years. Individual carbon nanotubes can measure in at roughly 10,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair, don’t let their size fool you.

They can be as stiff as steel and can have very high thermal and electrical conductivities. But getting them to work in tandem with each other has been a challenge for scientists.

Using a material called aerogel (a type of gel in which the liquid portion has been replaced with gas to create a low-density solid), researchers at the University of Texas in Dallas’ Alan G. MacDiarmid NanoTech Institute have found a way to make carbon nanotubes work together in extreme temperatures — such as those found in space. Their findings will be published in this week’s Science journal.

These carbon nanotube sheets or aerogels have properties unlike any other raw material. Individual carbon nanotubes have been woven together to make interconnected bundles that collectively give the sheet its unique properties. By injecting charges into the carbon nanotube sheet, scientists create repulsion between the individual nanotubes, causing the material to contract.

Artificial muscles have similarities to human muscles but are usually electroactive polymers whose shape can be modified when voltage is applied. These artificial muscles are capable of providing 30 times the force and contracting 1,000 times faster than human skeletal muscles.

“My guess is that this story will have a happy ending in terms of new products that benefit humankind,” said Dr. Ray Baughman, director of the NanoTech Institute.

The applications of these artificial muscles stretches far beyond the walls of the lab. You can expect to see them at work someday in medical devices, fuel cells, aerospace and even robots.

Here's what immediately scares me

  1. can operate in temperatures above the melting point of iron (1,538 degrees Celsius) and below the temperature of liquid nitrogen (-196 degrees Celsius)
  2. These artificial muscles are capable of providing 30 times the force and contracting 1,000 times faster than human skeletal muscles.
  3. Individual carbon nanotubes can measure in at roughly 10,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair
Whoever that fool was that said “My guess is that this story will have a happy ending in terms of new products that benefit humankind,” has clearly never seen The Matrix. Yeah, let's help make robots that we can't freeze or melt and can crush our skeletons! Great, where do I sign up?! Seriously, wtf folks! Really, the only good thing I can see here is a possibility for a real-life Wolverine, and even that has it's up's and down's.

And they can git 10,000 of them in the width of a human hair. Those shits can get anywhere. Great, now on top of Bacon Scrotum we all have to fear the probability of 10,000 nano-Wolverines invading our bodies.

You're Welcome for the heads-up.

it's a nice day for a manifesto

I saw this on twitter from Felicia Day (of hilarious gaming satire fame), and I think this has some points I've been following for years and some others that I should prolly intergrate.

The Cult of Done Manifesto

  1. There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.
  2. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.
  3. There is no editing stage.
  4. Pretending you know what you're doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you're doing even if you don't and do it.
  5. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.
  6. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.
  7. Once you're done you can throw it away.
  8. Laugh at perfection. It's boring and keeps you from being done.
  9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
  10. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.
  11. Destruction is a variant of done.
  12. If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.
  13. Done is the engine of more.

Of topic, but also hilarious to me are random tweets from Jeff Sutterman, Art Director of Marvel Comics that go something like:
"OK, now it's time to ruin someone's day. Clear."
or
"Learn how to take direction. Knucklehead."

Maybe this is a new habit I could adapt. random threats and tell-offs posted on my twitter page instead of directly at the person, eh?

I'm so glad this hasn't happened to me

I unscrupulously stole this from www.worstcartoonsever.com. Enjoy

“Bacon Lodged in Scrotum.”

Posted by: Chris_Ward on 03-19-2009 @ 5:22 am | Filed under: Uncategorized —

So I get a text message from my friend today that is both the most horrible and wonderful text message I’ve ever received. Names will be withheld due to the sensitive nature of the subject:

“Dude…My brother got a piece of undigested bacon lodged in his scrotum!”

Immediately, all the blood in my brain rushed to my Anterior Laugh Muscle, the strongest and most deadly muscle in my body, sending me into a berserker coma. When I awoke, I had to get details. Here’s all I know.

It was from a Subway sandwich…it somehow didn’t digest properly and worked it’s way down there. The doctor had to cut it out! he’s fine now. I’ll call to get details.

First things first: He’ll never be “fine” again. Never again will he eat smoked meats without imagining them traveling down his throat, defiantly taking the off-ramp by his stomach that says “BRIDGE OUT,” crashing through that wall Smokey and the Bandit style, and leading all major blood cells on a Thelma and Louise chase that ends with a painful dive into Scrotum Gulch.

I’m a worrier. I come from a family of worriers. Not once have I worried that bacon that goes down my throat may end up in my balls. Now it’s all I can think about. I don’t know whether to give up bacon, or Subway, or just solid foods in general.

“What’s all this have to do with cartoons,” you ask? Here’s a Porky Pig short to keep us on topic. It’s got bacon and cursing rolled into one…just like my friend’s brother experienced first hand.

Perspective

So I hear the economy sucks. At least, no matter what you've lost, you're not this bad off:

http://www.mccainblogette.com/archive/june_22_25.shtml

I am so damn tired

of every picture I post in my blog being taken down.

I think I might go buy a scanner today and start making crayola-drawings to illustrate all of my topics from now on.

For example, if I wanted to say something about planting trees, or saving the forest, or the creepy scene in MacBeth where the trees walk up to the castle, I might use this:

Lighten up your morning & nourish yourself

I know you prolly came here today looking for a meaty posting with some comedy or politics or ranty-witty-awesomeness, but somehow this three-day work week seems way to fucking long already. Might be because I'm broke and haven't gotten out of the house in a few days. Either way, I think this afternoon I might try to invent one of these..

Favorite Lines from Movies I saw this year....

Admission: I'm a cinephile. Or more likely, a Movie-aholic. And I'm unrepentant. It's so bad that I don't really care that I just wrote 2 half-sentences back there.

Anyways, here's a list of my favorite lines from movies I saw that came out in 2008

- "What's the boy word for 'slut'?"// Definitely Maybe

- "Oh trust me doc, bringing psychiatric drugs and teenagers together is like opening a lemonade stand in the desert." // Charlie Bartlett

- Guy 1: "In the Army, soldiers would pull on their puds to keep the blood flowing."
Guy 2: "What regiment were you in? The Royal Corps of Wankers?" // The Bank Job

- "Say yes to whim! Say yes to chance! Say yes to chaos!"// Chaos Theory

- "How do you say goodbye to someone you can't imagine living without? I didn't say goodbye.
I didn't say anything. I just walked away." // My Blueberry Nights

- "You have Christ between your thighs... only with a shorter beard." // Forgetting Sarah Marshall

- "Give me a scotch. I'm starving." // Iron Man

- "Lavender, you get on my head" // What Happens in Vegas...

- "Oh, you. You just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You are truly incorruptible, aren't you? Huh? You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever." // The Dark Knight

- "Suppose Nancy sees me coming out of the shower and decides to come on to me. I'm looking good, got a luscious v of hair going through my chest pubes down to my ball fro. She takes one look at me and goes " Oh my god, I've had the old bull now I want the young calf" and grabs me by the weiner." // Step Brothers

- "Maria Elena used to say that only unfulfilled love can be romantic." // Vicky Christina Barcelona

- "One of my teaching assistants and a very, very hard working woman. [teaching assistant exits [ Last night I fucked her to within an inch of her life. True story. I'm champin' her, head through the headboard, and I flip her over and she screams give me a choker. I play the choir boy and say what's that? Starwiped her five minutes later and she's bugging like an epileptic at a strobe light convention. Now I'm getting scared and as I'm working out the 911 phone call in my head she goes" // My Best Friend's Girl

- "If anyone is getting raped in that van, it'll be a guy. " // Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

- "When someone says that they have people everywhere, you expect it to be hyperbole. Lots of people say that. Florists use that expression. It doesn't mean that they have people in the bloody room." // Quantum of Solace

It Pays to Increase your Vocab!

If you've ever had brunch with me (and only a certain lucky few of you have), you'd know that I like to start the day with coffee, some breakfast and a crossword. It all started when I rented Wordplay a few years ago.

Look at my boy Will Shortz and tell me he is not exactly what sets your motors running, ladies. Seriously, tell me, because if not, I've been modeling myself after the wrong guy.

(Side Note: If you search "Will Shortz" on photobucket.com, you get a whole bunch of pictures of young chicks posing for the camera, which leads me only to believe that girls ARE indeed nuts about this guy)

I also like to think that my boss at work, Jim (as opposed to my boss not-at-work... you know who) would look like Will if he had hair. Here's another shot of Will executing what one might call "The Hooter Honker"

Ok, I feel my point has been suitably made. Moving on.

Here is where I admit I have a personal fault. I tend to hear something funny or witty and want to integrate it into my life. This fault, sadly, has occassionally left me unconsciously using words that other people have trademarked. This then feeds into another fault I have where I know my vocabulary is much larger than the number of words I actively use, yet seldom do I find ways to incorporate all the words I'd like to use. I particularly despise it when I use a word or saying that I tend to hear a lot at TMH (Anie's place... yes, she bribed me to refer to it as this), because;

1.) I'm just globbing on to the words of Anie & Co.,
2.) these are chick-words in my mind and I should clearly be able to think up my own unique witticisms without ever having to gender-blur,
3.) I cherrish the concept of personal identites as "Ryan" and "Anie" who happen to be a couple, as opposed to "Ryan & Anie" who would be a tragic siamese hybrid-thing of awefulness (we all know a couple like this in our lives, if you're not doing something to avoid being them, it may already be too late!).

Yes, I know these are nerdy, complicated issues. This is the minutae of my life. Now we're ready to move on.

Last week, Anie & I were crusing along on our way to New Year's Eve her cousins and we were talking about Resolutions for the New Year. One Resolution I had on my mind was to never use a word or saying that I have heard her use. Then, I decided to take it one-step further. For this year, I'm going to try to use a new, interesting word that i've either under-used or never used before every other week. This week, the word I chose is:

Aleatory -- accidental, chance, occurring randomly

As in, this blog is totally aleatory, because I came home to play video games and the servers were down, so I needed something else to fill in my time.

I think we're off to a good start.

so...

Looks like I've been having some issues with getting images to want to appear in my blogs lately. That sucks. It also sucks that Blogger makes me use images that are only so wide, especially since I have a wide-screen monitor; no way to avoid uber-large margins = lose. On a positive note, I'm off today and bored, so here goes some sweet sweet bloggery.

Yes, that's a word. Move it or lose it.

New Year.... rah rah

So, welcome back.

Today I intended to start by posting some pictures that I took over the last week. Anie is trying this project of taking a picture everyday (though I have no idea where she plans to put these pictures), so I thought I'd use that as an impetus to re-up my own photography skills. To that end, I took my new camera with us on Friday when we decided to have fun on the Light Rail. Turns out, however, that I cannot find the cord I need to use to upload these pictures to my computer. So, please enjoy some random images that I found on flickr this morning, and rest assured that there is some genuine grade-a artwork locked into my damn camera, never seeing the light of day (until I find the damn cord...)

Onwards and upwards, though, right? So, being as it is the new year, here are a few "resolutions" I made.

- Be Healthier: Work out 3x a week, stop eating potatoes of all types, cook at home more
- Be More Green
- Be More Creative: Complete some project every month, blog 3-4 times a week

I know, some of these seem way easier to say than to actually do, and from experience I do better with "until New Year's resolutions" made in the fall, instead of the traditional type made in the Winter, but let's give it a whirl.

LOL

Happy Hi-Five Day, Anie.

My apologies... Hope this makes up for it.

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. Let myself get a bit sidetracked with random hour at work and a minor holiday known as "eat all the stuff you can".

If I came a-callin'...

So I came across this article from TIME Magazine about calling cards and am debating if it would be a suave idea for me to adopt. I am sometimes miffed that I don't get free business cards from work because I'm not an exec, yet all the time people ask me for my card.

I even went so far as to make a new, more professional e-mail address to put on the card rglass.phx@gmail.com...

Thus far, though, I've only found one example that I liked (see below), but don't feel great about dropping $150 on something that oddly shaped.

If you've got any ideas, let me know.

A Car that runs on What?!?

Would you drive one of these?

Reportedly it can go 60 miles on a tank of compressed air. Air, folks, air. That smog-filled crap we breathe every day, use it to power this escape-pod shaped sweet-ride of the future!
Get this, for Highway travel, this bad boy can go 800 miles by using a small motor to compress more air from outside the car as you go. The compressor motor will run on gasoline, ethanol, diesel, vegetable oil... so you could grab that salad dressing that's sitting on the door of your fridge and is about to expire (if you're anything like me, you never finish a bottle of dressing before it expires...), empty it into your Air Car and you're set for trip to San Diego.
For the full article, check here. I know I for one will be ready to pick up my main squeeze in my Air Car when they start sales in 2011.

"Upgrade your Grey Matter...

because one day it may matter" -Deltron 3030

I found this on Yahoo a bit ago, thought I'd share it with y'all.

Have you ever felt exasperated when you bumped into someone at the store but absolutely couldn't remember their name? Sure, it happens to all of us. Despite being the strongest computer on the planet, our brains do lapse. It's hard to blame them really. As humans, we spend much of or existence stuffing our brains with stuff.

No matter how powerful our brains are, they need recuperation time to be kept in shape. Think of it as a tune up for your brain. Skipping brain maintenance is as silly as the person wandering the parking garage because they forgot where they parked. Is that you? Are you that
person? If so, fear not; we are all that person at some point.

Now I am not a brain surgeon and I am not going to suggest you do
anything surgical or dangerous. I am however an astute student of human
behavior so I always look for simple ways to super charge my brain.
Here are some things you can begin doing as soon as today to begin the great brain tune up:

Eat Almonds
Almond is believed to improve memory. If a combination of almond oil
and milk is taken together before going to bed or after getting up at
morning, it strengthens our memory power. Almond milk is prepared by crushing the almonds without the outer cover and adding water and sugar to it.

Drink Apple Juice
Research from the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) indicates that apple juice increases the production of the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, resulting in an increased memory power.

Sleep well
Research indicates that the long-term memory is consolidated during sleep by replaying the images of the experiences of the day. These repeated playbacks program the subconscious mind to store these images and other related information.

Enjoy simple Pleasures
Stress drains our brainpower. A stress-ridden mind consumes much of our memory resources to leave us with a feeble mind. Make a habit to engage yourself in few simple pleasures everyday to dissolve stress from your mind. Some of these simple pleasures are good for your mind, body and soul.

-Enjoy music you love
-Play with your children
-Appreciate others
-Run few miles a day, bike or swim
-Start a blog
-Take a yoga class or Total Wellness routine

Exercise your mind
Just as physical exercise is essential for a strong body, mental exercise is
equally essential for a sharp and agile mind. Have you noticed that children have far superior brainpower than an adult does? Children have playful minds. A playful mind exhibits superior memory power. Engage in some of the activities that require your mind to remain active and playful.

-Play scrabble or crossword puzzle
-Volunteer
-Interact with others
-Start a new hobby such as blogging, reading, painting, bird watching
-Learn new skill or a foreign language

Practice Yoga or Meditation
Yoga or Meditation relives stress. Stress is a known memory buster. With less stress, lower blood pressure, slower respiration, slower metabolism, and released muscle tension follows. All of these factors contribute significantly towards increases in our brainpower.

Reduce Sugar intake
Sugar is a non-food. It’s a form of carbohydrate that offers illusionary
energy, only to cause a downhill slump once the initial burst has been worn off. Excess intake of sugar results in neurotic symptoms.
Excess sugar is known to cause claustrophobia, memory loss and other
neurotic disorders. Eat food without adding sugar. Stay away from sweet drinks or excess consumption of caffeine with sugar.

Eat whole wheat
The whole wheat germs contain lecithin. Lecithin helps ease the problem of the hardening of the arteries, which often impairs brain functioning.

Eat a light meal at night
A heavy meal at night causes tossing and turning and a prolonged emotional stress while at sleep. It’s wise to eat heavy meal during the day when our body is in motion to consume the heavy in-take. Eating a light meal with some fruits allows us to sleep well. A good night sleep strengthens our brainpower.

Develop imagination
Greeks mastered the principle of imagination and association to memorize everything. This technique requires one to develop a vivid and colorful
imagination that can be linked to a known object. If you involve all your senses - touching, feeling, smelling, hearing and seeing in the imagination process, you can remember greater details of the event.

Control your temper
Bleached food, excess of starch or excess of white bread can lead to nerve grating effect. This results in a violent and some time depressive behavior. Eat fresh vegetables. Drink lots of water and meditate or practice yoga to relieve these toxic emotions of temper and stressful mood swings.

Take Vitamin B-complex
Vitamin B-complex strengthens memory power. Eat food and vegetables
high in Vitamin B-complex. Stay away from the starch food or white bread, which depletes the Vitamin B-complex necessary for a healthy mind. I don't believe these are that tough. If you find yourself increasing stumped, give a couple of these a try.

I already incorporate tips 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12. Damn sugar is my roadblock, especially when Starbucks is involved.
